Sand in the river
|
|
One of the main problems in the Jaguaribe river is that there is a lot of sand in the bottom of the river, causing it to become very shallow. This is caused by the destruction of the trees that grow alongside the river in order to prevent erosion. The trees have several enemies. Farmers cut down the trees in order to extend their land while other people cut down the trees for their wood. The problem becomes even worse when people take clay from the river to make ceramics. There is still some vegetation along the river, though, mainly Oitcica trees. |
