River stories

Isolated homes

This happened a couple of years ago. It was in 1998 and it was still raining when I woke up early to go to work. I heard a strange noise and went to the window to check what was going on. What a surprise! There was a flood outside. The Jacui river, that usually runs 500 meters away form my home, had surrounded it after three days of incessant rain. Although I was scared, I decided to wake up my friend and we both went outside. We started to laugh as soon as we realized that we wouldn’t be able to move around. Some neighbors approached us. We decided not to leave the house because we knew that the water would not get inside it since it was built pretty high from the ground. And we were pretty scared about the possibility of having dangerous animals around such as snakes and frogs. We spent all the day and the following night without being able to leave. Everything was gone the next day. Now we only have our pictures and memories of that day.
