At this time, just 10% of the park has been mapped. Jau is a a park full of superlatives. It is not only the biggest in Brazil, but in just one hectare of jungle you can find 300 different species of plants. This knowledge is the result of five years of work by 60 researchers under the coordination of the Fundacao Vitoria Amazonica, a non-governmental organization (NGO). To date, they have cataloged 313 species of fish, and 440 types of birds. The ornithologist (someone who studies birds) Sergio Henrique Borges was able to capture a bird long thought extinct. The icthyologist (someone who studies fish) Jansen Zuanon discovered six completely new types of fish.
