The Meinung People Take Action

The Yellow Butterfly Valley and the Twin Creeks that run across the valley have had strong connections to Meinung people since their first settlement in 1763. Meinung people consider the Yellow Butterfly Valley to be the place where their culture began. When they became aware that the dam project might endanger the existence of the valley, they decided to do something.

They began the Yellow Butterfly Festival to promote the idea of appreciating and preserving natural resources. The memorial ceremony in the festival is to express apologies from human beings to the yellow butterflies for destroying their lives. In addition, volunteers have worked to recover the environment by planting Indian Chestnut Trees and Common Lantana in the valley. Meinung people have resolved to preserve the Yellow Butterfly Valley, their homeland.
