The hard work paid off: the new president of Taiwan has promised not to build the dam during his presidency. The newly planted Common Lantana in the valley have started to attract more and more yellow butterflies! This is encouraging. But there are two problems:
1. Even without the dams, the ecosystem of the valley continues to be threatened by tourism and businesses.
2. Southern Taiwan still needs more water for its people, and if a dam is not built in Yellow Butterfly Valley, one will have to be built somewhere else.
